Book Two of The Tununda Mysteries

After discovering a lost Civil War hat from a famous Union general who was shot in the back during the Battle of Atlanta, Freemason military historian Lieutenant Colonel Jake Tununda is shocked to learn a secret waybill may be hidden inside the hat's liner. Before he can inspect it, the hat and two priceless Nazi artifacts disappear from the West Point Museum in a brazen daytime theft. Jake and his stunning girlfriend, private investigator Rae Hart, head to Savannah to question their main suspect, an aging World War II vet. They soon find themselves targeted for assassination. Even worse, Jake is suspended from the case and the Army itself. In Map of Thieves, a mystery thriller set in the deep South, Jake and Rae team up with Delta Force operative Alex Vann to catch a killer thief and to locate the legendary Cherokee Tunnel-a gold vault in the Georgia mountains that dates back to 1838 and the Trail of Tears. Enter U.S. Congressman Tom Black of Atlanta, one of the dirtiest, most corrupt politicians ever to steal an election. He's also the great grandson of the sniper whose shot killed the Union general. Once privy to what's inside the secret Indian tunnel-Hernando de Soto's stolen Spanish mining map-Black will let nothing stand in his way to steal it for himself, including killing his own elderly father.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I hesitate to get to much into the specifics of the the few character behaviors that bothered me, as I don't want to give anything about the story away. So, in a general way I will simply say there is a character whose instantly forgiving & trusting response to an act of extreme and deadly betrayal, seems to defy logic, considering what we have previously learned about this character's personality. The other issue for me was the author's injection of partisan political attitudes directed against actual people now in the government of the United States. More prudent authors would assign fictitious names to govt officials for two reasons. the first is to prevent the work from becoming dated. The second is to prevent the reader from becoming too distracted from the actual story. That said, this is an exciting read and having completed it, I long for the next installment of The Tununda Mysteries.

Map of Thieves The Tununda Mysteries Book 2 edition by Michael Karpovage Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

A better page-turner than Crown of Serpents. Characters are more well-developed and the pace was much faster. Astounding knowledge of American history. Opened my eyes to some new places to visit after having lived in Atlanta for more than 20 years. Glad to see more "romance" this time but I must say I had nightmares about the Raven Mocker. I'll look forward to your third!
Loved the continuation of the main characters and all the obvious historical background prep to add to the "lore". Even the sites on ATL were very well done, Brother. As a former elected person, I appreciated Mr. Black... a true (black) mark on our culture of alleged elected "servants". Fitting demise for/to him, as well. Then there's the flesh... good word pictures there, too ). You have quite a gift, Mr. K. Keep the books coming. Glad to be a fan.
I read Michael Karpovage's first book, Crown of Serpents, after learning of it on the Seneca Army Depot Facebook Page where Michael and I are members. I was stationed there from 1988 to 1991. I was blown away by his research on the Depot and with the Seneca area. I have always loved Dan Brown and Robert Ludlum and their style of writing. BOOM, here comes Karpovage! The Map of Thieves is an excellent read. The book moves in a fast paced, action packed, kick em in the rear and take their name story line. The way Karpovage seamlessly moves between past and present keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The characters are interesting and seem real to life. The mixture of historical fact and fiction intertwined with a bit of Freemasonary tossed in for good measure makes for a very exciting read. I recommend this book to anyone who loves action and adventure or to anyone who loves history and mystery. I think I have found my new favorite author! I further recommend that you grab his first book, Crown of Serpents and read them back to back over a nice weekend!
Absolutely love this!!! I enjoyed the first Tununda Mystery, but this was even better. Loved the history with the Civil War and the Indian participation.

Jake and Rae are perfectly matched and I hope there are more encounters for them both.

This is interesting, fast moving and keeps you guessing ....great combination.

Hope it doesn't take too long for another book. I am anxiously waiting. Highly recommended.
This is MIchael Karpovage's second book in this series, and it does not disappoint. He has the gift of weaving truth into the fiction. He takes real events, and with a dose of what could only be magic tells a riviting story that pulls you in from page one until the final word has been read. Because of his book, I have researched many hystorical events, and people he references in his book, and he is spot on with the facts. That is talent. You will enjoy the hystory, the adventures, and yes oh yes the action! I highky recomend this book and the first book in the series as well!
Jake and Rae now are a team on a television show featuring interesting military history. The plot centers around Indian lore and a treasure similar to Crown of Serpents. The personal relationship between Jake and Rae is progressing and rather explicitly in parts. The ending was rather abrupt, although you find out the "bad guys" live to see another day. There were sections in the story where the same history was repeated through the listening to a tape recording; I skimmed through that section, not wanting to reread the story of the tunnel. It was certainly worth reading and I am looking forward to the next book about hopefully with more Native American Indian lore and see what Jake and Rae are u[p to next.
Loved this book. It is fast moving and has lots of history to the story, especially Indian history that I had not known. This is the second book in a series but the story was complete. I sent a comment to the author on his Facebook page to see if the first book in the series was going to be available on my Nook and he answered me right away. Not going to be available on the Nook and he is working on the third book in the series. I just bought a Fire so I could read the rest of the books in the series. I highly recommend.
